Whether you're a hopeless romantic or a nature lover who is constantly looking for scenic views of the sunset (or maybe you are both, like me), this post is for you. Over my 10+ years of travels, I have found some of the most incredible locations to watch the sunset, and I am not gatekeeping.

  1. Sri Lanka

I was blown away by the nature of this island anyway, but my jaw absolutely hit the floor when I saw the sun setting on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka. My favorite spots were around Koggala, Weligama, and Mirissa. Just make sure that you take some cash with you, in case you want to take photos of the fishermen, like above.

  1. Algarve, Portugal

This area of Portugal is not only home to some of the most breathtaking beach views, but you can also find some incredible sunset locations too!

My favourite moment in Algarve, watching the sun set on Praia de Mesquita
  1. Hội An, Vietnam

Vietnam is a country that I hold dear in my heart. I have made some of the best travel memories in this wonderful country. It is a great destination not only for solo female travellers but also, at times, for sunset lovers. My favourite one was overlooking the rice fields in Hội An.

The best part? You can rent a bike and cycle across these picturesque fields!
  1. Desierto de Ica, Peru

Whenever someone mentions Peru, most people think of Machu Picchu immediately, but what is less known is the incredible diversity of nature in this country. In the space of 10 days, one can go from watching penguins by the ocean to snowy mountains and sunsets in the desert. The latter made it to this list for obvious reasons.

  1. Athens and surrounding areas, Greece

Since I spent many months in Athens, more than one location had to make the list. Given its geographical position, if you stay in Athens and its surrounding areas, you are likely to catch some incredible sunset, especially during the summer months. But let the photos do the talking!

Olympic Stadium Athens, Greece sunset
If you are an architect lover, the Olympic Stadium in Athens is definitely worth a visit during sunset hours. Here you can admire the works of Calatrava in a new light!
Alimos Marina, Athens, Greece cocktail hour
Alimos Marina, one of my favourite spots in Athens for a sunset. It is a lesser known spot by tourists, so it is more of a local experience but it does not lack the feelings of luxury! One can enjoy a cocktail in the most beautiful sunset colours overlooking the fanciest yachts... Perfect for a solo dinner even!
