If you are ready for incredible architecture, rich cultural experiences, the scent of spice markets and vibrant colours, Marrakech, Morocco may be your next ideal destination. Gaining popularity in the recent years, this breathtaking city offers experiences that are straight out of a storybook. From relaxing rooftop bars to hidden, interior courtyard gardens (other known as riads), Marrakesh (and yes, it can be spelled both ways) will definitely charm you.

Because once in your life you have to experience a riad stay.
I personally found this to be the most magical and enchanting part of Marrakech. You walk outside in the dusty and hot streets, no water or greenery in sight, and then you step into any of the riads, and just by stepping through a bg wooden door you find yourself in paradise. Lush greenery, gorgeous pools, water fountains and protective linen curtains are what you are likely to find inside. It's like stepping through a magic door that teleports you to a magical land. And most of these riads are there to make your holiday/travelling even more wonderful. From hammams (cleansing ritual), massages to beauty treatments, you can choose how you want to elevate your stay. Most of these riads also function as hotels so you can stay for the night as well to live out the full experience. If Princess Jasmine was your favourite Disney character, I can promise you, you will fall in love with this city. (my favourite ones were BLISS Riad Marrakech and Riad BE Marrakech, visit by reservation only).
Because you have to try the food.
I don't know if you saw it, but even Gordon Ramsey agrees that Moroccan cuisine is the best there is, which is a big statement. But talking from my experience, Moroccan food is definitely in my top 10! Thanks to the local herbs and spices tasting different dishes is an activity that makes a trip to Morocco worth your while. The food is rich and nourishing, it is actually one of those places that may help you improve your health or eating habits a little, even though you're travelling.
Because you want to see the architecture.
From the Jardin Majorelle through Le Jardin Secret to a simple rooftop bar, Marrakech is full of intricate geometric patterns, horseshoe arches, and vibrant tile-work. Even if you step into a simple shop you are often met with beautiful colours, shapes and patterns. It is something I haven't really seen elsewhere, as the it blends different styles and cultures, giving the city a very unique look and feel. I think the architecture alone in this city should be a reason to add Marrakech, Morocco to your travel list.
Now let's see my recommendations, and let me illustrate them with photos because they speak louder than a million words. When I was putting this post together, I was actually struggling to only pick a handful of photos because of how incredible everything looks. But here we go, my top picks to give you an impression of what a trip to Marrakech may look like:

I hope that with these points, tips and photos I made you add Marrakech to your bucket list. I think it's such a rich and beautiful culture with interesting history, culture and incredibly hospitable people. I think it is a place I will visit in the future again. I would recommend 4-5 days minimum to travel comfortably, as you can even take day-trips from Marrakech, depending on your interest you might want to fit those in too.
Lastly, I know that safety might be a concern, so I want to add that Marrakesh was not one of my solo travels, I went with a friend. But as two female travellers we felt very comfortable, obviously we only went to touristy places and used common sense/safety practises. I would probably visit it solo too, but I would not recommend this as a first-time/beginner solo female travel destination. For that I have curated a list, you can find it here.
Marrakech is one of those places that capture your attention — with colour, flavour, and memories you’ll carry long after you’ve left.
