When planning a trip to Europe, Slovenia may not be the first country that comes to mind compared to other countries. But this small, yet mighty country truly deserves a spot on everyone's bucket list. Even though tourism has been growing there in recent years, its incredible features are still bit of a hidden gem. The versatility of this country is next level, from beautiful rivers through hidden caves, crystal-clear lakes to mountain tops, it’s a true paradise for anyone who loves to spend time outdoors. So, in my series of introducing lesser-known destinations, it clearly earns a post. Here come 3 reasons to visit Slovenia, the often overlooked neighbour of Italy and Croatia.

why visit Slovenia
Lake Bled is probably the most well-known part of Slovenia, but the reasons to visit go way beyond. Let me show you!

The country for you if you love slow travel

If you are the type of traveller who wishes to explore a country at a slow pace, you will love Slovenia. Most tourist attractions and things to do are centred around nature. This characteristic makes it the perfect destination for anyone who wants to enjoy hikes, taking long walks and relax by crystal clear lakes or rivers while reading a good book. Life slows down in nature, and Slovenia welcomes anyone who wants to take a break from everyday stress and just breathe in crispy fresh air while exploring tranquil places. You can find a hidden or more relaxing spot even in peak season. While it is gaining popularity among European travellers, it is still overlooked compared to Italy, Greece or Croatia when it comes to overseas tourists, giving you a chance to savour 'off the beaten path' gems.

It is solo travel friendly

Given that my blog focuses on female, especially solo female travel, this is an aspect we have to appreciate. Slovenia constantly ranks high on solo female friendly destinations in Europe, so if you want to explore Europe alone, this could be a good start. In my experience the country is well-organised, friendly, welcoming and easy to get by as most people speak a good level of English. The country is also quite small and compact, so it’s easy to get around even using public transport. So, if you crave a solo, outdoorsy holiday, Slovenia is ready to welcome you with lots of opportunities!

A paradise for active relaxation

Adding to point one. If you are the type of traveller who recharges best by doing something exciting, active and fun, Slovenia is the right place for you. There are hundreds of activities to choose from: paddling boats of pristine waters, exploring caves, hiking mountains, skinning, different water sports and summer sledding, Slovenia really is your oysters. There will be no dull moment here, and no matter when in the year you decide to visit this beautiful country, it is guaranteed that you will find an outdoor activity to do!
