I first visited Lisbon in 2019, and I remember thinking, this is a city I could see myself living in for a little while (you see, I always had ambitions to be a digital nomad). Fast forward 2 years, and life gave me an opportunity to spend many months in this wonderful capital. Lisbon became my home away from home, and in today's post, I will tell you why you may fall in love with it too. When it comes to travelling Europe, Lisbon is must.

The atmosphere
Visiting Lisbon, Portugal is equally laid-back and exciting. People live a slower and more balanced lifestyle compared to many other capital cities, so there's less of a rush, and more of a 'let's sit down and enjoy this coffee in the sunshine' vibe to it. The city is also very walkable, so it's easy to get around on foot. However, when looking at the walking distances on your map, you might want to keep in mind that it is also very hilly, so it may take a little longer to get to your destination than you'd expect. Regardless, Lisbon can be a great location if you are looking for your next solo travel destination. There are lots of opportunities to meet like-minded people, from working cafes to surf lessons outside of the city, Lisbon will welcome you with open arms.

The location
If you had enough of the city life you can always take a little break closer to nature. While Lisbon does not have a beach, it is located very close to some of the most beautiful ones you can imagine. Some of them are easily accessible via train, others may require a rental car or a short Uber drive (which is surprisingly affordable). Here you can enjoy a beach day or even take a surf lesson. The beauty of these beaches are unmatched in my opinion, but let the below pictures do the talking.

The weather
Especially if you are looking for a winter getaway, Lisbon can be the ideal choice. With around 300 sunny days per year, even if you visit in the winter months you will be likely to enjoy long and sunny beach walks or terrace lunches. Most of the time I spent in Lisbon was actually between December to March, so I definitely experienced the all-year-round mild weather that everyone praises. Of course, once the sun sets during these months, you will still need a coat, but during the day the temperature can be quite pleasant even in January.
